Oh, it's on now - "Moviestar" is a go

Word's out that Adobe is releasing the latest Beta of its ubiquitous Flash Player today, code named "Moviestar." Three big features of note:

  • H.264 video support
  • HE-AAC audio support
  • Hardware-accelerated, multi-core capable playback

Sounds like someone's gunning for a piece of that newfangled hi-def content market. What's also interesting is that (as one might expect) Moviestar will be a big piece of AIR (formerly Apollo) as well as the Adobe Media Player. Regarding the latter, if you recall my piece on AMP back when it was first announced, it wasn't clear how the supposed "higher-quality playback" would work. Pretty clear now.

At any rate, check out the press release for the full PRspeak, and be sure to download the beta from the Adobe Labs site when it's released today.
