April Idocy
I'm generally not a fan of April Fools' Day, especially when it comes to getting news online. Many of the same sites that want you to take them seriously as news sources (at least technology news sources) are ripping their arm sockets out from patting themselves on the back in an attempt to generate "clever" fake news stories for this, the most idiotic "holiday" we have. So, when something of actual news value comes around on a day like today, namely that EMI is holding a media event on April 2 with Apple CEO Steve Jobs as a special guest, one immediately thinks that it's not on the up-and-up, even if it's true. Here's a hint for next year, guys - leave the fake news to the Onion and the Daily Show. I don't usually have the same sense of humor as that stuffy British dude Philip from Back to School, but I guess I'm very much like him when it comes to today. Tomorrow can't come fast enough.
Incidentally, it will be interesting to see what comes out of this EMI/Apple thing. EMI dropping DRM? The long-awaited Beatles online catalog? Yet another reason to look forward to tomorrow.
