Turning an idea for a video into reality

In the last 6 months or so, as part of a college course I'm doing in
Media Studies, we were set a Final Major project, with a brief of what
was needed in the FMP, but up to the individuals a to what were to film.

The basic brief for the FMP was, in our groups, to produce a 6 minute max, video, on a topic of our choice, but it was also to be integrated with the other members projects, to shown on a fictional Channel B teleivsion station.

The original idea, I had for my video, was to a piece where there was a topic, and it would be a vox pop type of program where, people would give their point of view on it.

This idea, lasted all of a week.

Thankfully I hadn't really done that much to the project, so changing ideas wasn't to bad.

A better idea, had come up.

At the time, my college was running a series on sessions on Wednesdays called Enrichments which, as the name suggest, was to enrich our lives... well that's the idea....

One of the sessions they had set up, was to bring in representatives from the local emergancy serives, to give talks about drink driving.

The first talk I attnded, gave the me idea for what I've actually done for my project.

The first talk was given by the Fire brigade, giving some stats and figures, about dangers of drink driving, and dealing with Road Traffic Accident's.

I realise just from reading that it doesn' sound like something that could be used in a project, it's what they said at the end that, gave me the idea.

They were going to simulate a Road Traffic Accident, by bringing in a wrecked car, and then go through the motions of what they have to do to remove the people in the car.

At frist, I thought this would be, a chance for me to just get some filming practise in, if I know there's something happening, ahead of time I'll make sure I bring a camcorder and film it, and I checked with the fire officers at the time, if this would be okay.  And htey said no probs.

Then I was talking with the teacher who takes of for our FMP part, of the course, and she suggested that I used this as my Final Major Project, rather than my initial idea.
