Mass Effect: Review

I've recently finished playing Mass Effect for the first time.

I took the path, of playing the additional missions/assignments, and by the end of the game, I'd problaby completed around... 80% maybe 90% of them, and I'm going to play through the game again to do all of them.

The version of Shepard I went with, was the default settings, with the exception he skill was technical based, and I played selecting all the good guy responses.

I almost straight away fell in love with the way the story line evolved, just based on how you replied to a what had been said before.

As had been noted by a lot of video game pod/vidcast I watch, their really aren't any tutorials, in the traditional sense of them, where they hold your hand, as such, through the first  bit of the game, to get you familiar with the controls, the interfac, etc...

For the most part, this wasn't really a problem, with the exception of when driving around planets with the Mako.

I might have just missed something saying this, but  when I first landed on a planet that you required to you drive around, on the Rader as such, there were no way point marker or anything that told you where you were to go, so I was spending  ages, driving around getting lost trying to find whatever I was supposed to be doing there.

Then by accident, I came across the Map option in the the Mission screen, I'd probably seen it lots of time, and for whatever reason, I'd not really played any real attention to it, and when I opened it up, when on a planet there were all the locations that I could got to.... DOH!!!

Once I got past that part, and starting from fresh, just because I seemed to keep getting killed, because once I'd found this map navigation out, I decided to start from near the beginning just so I could explore more of planets/assignments

I'm not going to go into the details of the story/plot, but it's good, with really good voice talent for the characters, and really good graphics in the game, and really well done cut scenes.

Add to all this, the fact that there are different character classes, plus all the extra assignments are optional... there is a lot of room for re playability.  I certainly will be go back to play again, not just to finish off all the missions.

My only really complaint, aside from the tutorials nit pick, is something several other people have mentioned, is that once you have completed the game, if you want to go finish the missions/assignments, you have to start the game again, unlike some games, where when you finish the game, you can carry on in the universe.

Overall, I really enjoyed the game, and with the way it ends... which I won't spoil... plenty of scope for a sequel... I hope there is.

Dalaran, which is more ?? or less the Shattrath of Wrath, has been getting a lot of love in the last couple of beta patches. It seems development on that particular taste of Northrend is going at full steam. It's still far from complete, with a whole legion of NPCs missing, the inside of some buildings still lack textures, and?? entire parts of the city still walled off. It really is coming together little by little though, and the city is more or less presentable now, not to mention???? bonny -- it's like cotton candy for your eyeballs. We've put together a little gallery of Dalaran for you to sift through if you're interested, and as the beta patches go by we'll probably update it with more of the finished product. Not already pictured is the Dalaran?? Sewers, but I hope to fix that soon. What are the Dalaran sewers, you might be wondering? It's a small hidden town beneath Dalaran, within the pipelines that were torn up when the relocation took place. It's full of every sorts of unsavory stuff. Awesome? Yes. ?????? Yes it is.yes indeed dalaran looks direful! really has a much meliorate region than shattrath which is impressive-looking, but beauty much a downer. org is a much livelier city and it seems like they're returning to form with dalaran which looks warm???? and inviting. i also like that you can see icecrown citadel from the balconies (even though i think icecrown citadel looks cooler in the concept ???????? prowess and WC3 than it does in its current form...). one concern though is if you spend much time in shatt, the lag is unbelievable. hopefully they come up with a solution to every the allies clogging up the city ;)
