Video Game Walkthroughs
Video game walk throughs have been around since the first games appeared on the scene.
They've come in a variety of forms, books, guides in magazines etc.
With the internet, access to these guides have become a lot easier.
Recently, I discovered what has to be the next generation of walk throughs.
Instead of just text, and maybe some screen shots, there are now website which provide video walk throughs of games, as either just the video from them playing the game, or have an voice commentary, on that person method of how they completed each section.
Some just put text on the screen.
All of which post the video on YouTube, but, you don't have to search YouTube to find them... well you can, but there are websites, which you have these walk throughs categorised for you, by console. i.e. xbox, xbox 360, PS2, PS3, Wii.. etc, even some PC games as well.
NextGenWalkthrough was the first one I came across, while looking for footage for games on YouTube, can't remember what games I was looking for footage for.
This website, has small but gradually increasing library of video walk-throughs. The one's done by the Beer Baron, the person who runs the website, are provided in two version, YouTube quality, which are embeded into the page, and a high resolution version which he uploads to FileShare, and is at a resolution of 720x480, and when the you've finished watching one video for a game, there's a back and forward clickable link below the video so you can move onto the next video in the series.
There's a good selection of walk-through here, from various consoles, though the video's are not as updated as frequently as some sites. Beer Baron isn't the only person who provide the walk though videos, but is the only one who provides hi resolution versions, and does an audio commentary regularly, though a few have done it once or twice for a few of there videos.
There's also a forum, where members can post discuss the videos, post requests for more walk throughs, etc...
All the videos posted by Beer Baron, are recorded on the hardest difficulty setting, brave guy, I"m not sure about the difficulty setting others use.
Overall a great site, but could do with being updated more frequently.
StumpedGamer
Stumped Gamer was the second site I came across, from one of the videos on NextGenWalkthrough.
Again like NGW, this one has the video's on YouTube, and are embeded into the site, but unlike NGW, they don't have you can't move back and forward between the file as easily, you either have to open it in another page or another tab. Maybe I've been spoilt with NGW.
There are video, for for most game systems, and titles can be found either through the alphabetical listing, or you can type a game name into the search field.
Not sure, without counting exactly how many titles they have listed, but they say on the front page they have 27,000 videos, in one post but I imagine that post has gone up since that front page post.
Or if you want to see a list of what titles they have walk-throughs for, for each game system, you can select the game system from a drop down menu.
At least once a day some new videos are being added, whether they just be additional clips to a existing walkthrough, or a new title.
Overall, another good site for walkthroughs, shame about the way you move between clips.
Game Anyone, is the second video walk-through site, I only recently came across this one.
The general idea of this site, is exactly the same as the previous two, but while this one doesn't have as many videos up as Stumped Gamer, but, it covers more games according to counter on the page.
Though now after looking through the listings, I'm not entirely sure how accurate that game count is.
As of the time of this writing, 903 games, and without going through and individually counting the games, I'm not sure how acurate that figure is...
They have links to the same video files for different versions console versions of the same game, and I think, that they're counting each console version as a game.
Even with that minor quible, it's still a very impressive list, and WOW..... there are game there which I remember playing as a teenager, and that's saying something as I'm 33 now...
Again, like Stumped Gamer, you can choose from a list of platform, and then either alphabetically, or either type a game name into the search box, or just browse through the games listed.
My only nit pic, like Stumped Gamer, you have to go back and forth between each video, to view each one, or open it in a new tab/window.
I know this is a minor thing, but I think it would be easier to be able to have a clickable back and forth link beneath the clips.
Overall a very good site, and aside from the aforementioned nit picks, I like it.
Three very good sites, each with it's plus and minuses, I would bookmark all three, and keep an eye out for new walk-through.

The game count for Game Anyone is counting each game for each system, not each individual title.
The video count for Stumped Gamer is including "extra videos" which are not walkthrough videos nor are indexed on the site. Stumped Gamer has far less real videos than what they claim.
The link to Game Anyone is linking directly to the site logo instead of the homepage.
And lastly I am the owner of Game Anyone and I will start working on a better way to switch between videos. Thanks for the site review!
