Rare appearance by the entire creative team of Groo the Wanderer
Kansas City, beware! The barbarian who is quick of sword and slow of mind is heading your way. Where Groo goes, devastation follows!
MO-KAN Comics Conspiracy is proud to present a rare joint appearance of the entire creative team of Groo the Wanderer. This long-running humor comic book is created by award-winning cartoonist Sergio Aragonés with the help of writer Mark Evanier, letterer Stan Sakai, and colorist Tom Luth.
The MO-KAN Comics Conspiracy convention will be held September 20 and 21 at the BTC Convention Hall in Kansas City, Missouri.
Sergio Aragonés is also known from Mad magazine. His tiny "marginal" cartoons have been tucked into the nooks of nearly every issue of Mad since 1963. Aragonés is one of the world's fastest cartoonists. According to Mad contributor Al Jaffee, "Sergio has, quite literally, drawn more cartoons on napkins in restaurants than most cartoonists draw in their entire careers."
Mark Evanier is a prolific writer of comic books, television shows, and animation. His most recent book is Kirby: King of Comics, a biography of comic book legend Jack Kirby. His blog, newsfromme.com, is one of the most popular pop culture sites on the Internet. Evanier has written more than 500 comics for Gold Key, DC Comics, and Marvel Comics, several hundred hours of television (including Garfield and Friends) and is the author of several books including Mad Art (2002). He has three Emmy Award nominations, and received the Lifetime Achievement Award for animation from the Writers Guild of America.
Stan Sakai is the creator behind the fan favorite Usagi Yojimbo. As writer and artist on the series since 1984, Sakai has been recognized with multiple Eisner awards for cartooning and lettering.
Tom Luth is the digital artist and illustrator responsible for bringing Aragonés' notoriously detailed crowd scenes to life in full color.
In addition to "The Groo Crew," confirmed guests of the convention include:
Gary Friedrich, co-creator of Marvel Comics' Ghost Rider and writer of classic Marvel Comics of the 1960s and 70s including The Incredible Hulk, Captain America, and Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos.
B. Clay Moore, hot writer of acclaimed comics including Hawaiian Dick, '76, Casey Blue, JSA Classified, and Superman Confidential. His upcoming graphic novel Billy Smoke has been optioned for development as a motion picture starring Matthew Fox of Lost.
Phil Hester, artist of titles including Green Arrow, Swamp Thing, and Ant-Man. As writer, he has also created several series, including Firebreather, which is currently in production as an animated feature film by Cartoon Network.
Ande Parks, inker and writer. Parks' brushwork has appeared in Green Arrow, Swamp Thing, and Wonder Woman. He has written the acclaimed graphic novels Union Station and Capote in Kansas.
Steve Lightle, a fan favorite artist whose work includes Legion of Super-Heroes, Doom Patrol, and Ghost Rider in Marvel Comics Presents.
