SEEN AT NAB: Track it in 3D

Probably more popular than ever, 3D tracking will be part of the stereoscopic experience for production and post production.

At the NAB Expo in Las Vegas, I didn't have a chance to see whether or not Mr. Andersson had any new features to demo in the 2008 version of his popular SYNTHEYES 3D motion tracker. When I passed the booth, there were always people there eager to find out what the application did and how they could use it in their next project.

You can find Syntheyes in the South Hall, below the stairs near the escalators (along the walll closest to C hall) - - I don't even know what the booth number is..... he's near SmartSound....

You've got to check out the new version... I barely know where to begin to say what's new in it: it's practically like a whole new program.

Faster, if that's possible. Better solving algorithms. A graph editor / keyframe editor that works. The ability to tweak parts of an existing solve and have the software recalculate to match your tweaks while you're doing it (for instance, pulling the camera in Y and having it automatically compensate by rotating in X). A bunch of other stuff, *and* substantial refinements to the interface.

What happens when player characters die? They become ghosts! When a player dies, he or she will be prompted with a dialogue box to "Release Spirit." Pressing this button will instantly transport the player to the nearest graveyard. The player will then be transformed into a ghost. On death, all equipped items will lose 10% durability.
