On the heals for the opening day of the MacWorld Conference and Expo in San Francisco (Monday, Jan. 14), DMA/LA (formerly MGLA) will be having its first meeting of 2008 - not to mention its first meeting under the new name: Digital Media Artists / Los Angeles - on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

As any long time MGLA member can tell you, the first meeting of the year is usually big and this one fits the bill.  As early as May of last year you may have heard of MAXON’s "The Power Integration Tour" for 2008, a joint road show with Adobe Systems Incorporated where motion graphics artists will learn how to bring their vision to life with blockbuster visual effects and compelling motion graphics for film, video, DVD, the web, and mobile devices.  A quick glance at the show dates, set for next summer, may have even left you feeling anxious to see what MAXON and Adobe have to show.  The third Tuesday of January, the wait is over.

Another first for this meeting is the notable change in the group’s co-hosts.  While former group moderators Lachlan “Lucky” Westfall and Dan Warvi have put in their share of time and effort over the years, Chris and Trish Meyer volunteered their time to organize and co-host for a full 10+ years of MGLA (spanning 125 consecutive monthly meetings plus 3 special events).  Last December’s MGLA meeting marked the final time for Chris and Trish Meyer to be on stage with the other co-hosts.  And, due to their prominent involvement in the group, that meeting also marked the coming change in the group’s name.  The December meeting didn’t offer enough time to thank Chris and Trish for their efforts.  They laid the groundwork for the continued success of the group and set the example of how to bring such memorable events together.

The website is still being updated, with two URLs of note:
1. www.mgla.org - Now an archive of the last ten years Motion Graphics Los Angeles
2. www.mgla2.org - An interim site (mirroring what was mgla.org) until the site and forums are fully ported over to the new group name.

Note: Thanks to the continued support of our long time web host, Hermosawave Internet, the “Next Meeting” page, the “Join” page, and the forums are all online - just be sure to visit “mgla2.org”.

This January’s meeting is looking like it may be one of those evening where you just don’t want to give up your seat.

Keep an eye out for the “Meeting Invite” email next week.

Your DMA/LA Co-hosts,
Tony, Warren and Ko

* This meeting is presented in association with the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre, a facility of the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs *
