A SECOND LIFE Sentence: Carnaval du Mystere, a medieval masked ball

Lords and ladies, under masks and veils,
graced an outdoor ballroom tonight in Karamoon, a medieval SIM in
Second Life, but all was not as festive as it appeared.
Sometime into the evening, a band of brigands forced their way
in. All was not lost, however, because dancing shoes do not
preclude a sword or even magic staff among medieval folk.
They know life can turn on a dime and they have no time to make change
with disruptive troublemakers.

The idea for the Carnaval du Mystere came up very quickly and though I had some masks previously made, I wanted to make a few more complex masks from traditional references. One was the archetypal Pagan figure, the Green Man (here worn by Jax Blackflag, the creator of Karamoon's new combat system) and another notable figure from classic Comedia, Puccinella (modeled by Hutch Harlow, a good SL friend as well).

There is always a thrill when I see someone using one of my products and to see two such handsome medievalian hunks donning my work...

...well, it's enough to set this girl's virtual heart to flutter, leap and surreptitiously have her steal many glances from the safety of her own veneer of mystery, La Lune Jalouse (The Jealous Moon, inspired by antique images of the man-in-the-moon).

There are many good mask makers in Second Life and I enjoy seeing the concoctions that everyone comes up with from single textured prims that cover only the eye area to multi-prim set ups that can extend past 100 prims and range out over the face, and sometimes over the whole head, in elaborate machinations resembling mythical creatures and animals of the field and anything the imagination can fashion.

Karamoon is a fairly new SIM in Second Life, but it is burgeoning with marvelous landscaping and well-thought out venues for rich role-playing experiences. The Queen, Venovara Ivory, normally tucked under lock and key by the warlord, managed to be appear and cavort among her subjects. She seemed to have escaped the possible danger of highwaymen that invaded the celebration led by a lithe outlaw, Raynafel Uralia. Too bad, for them, that they chose to crash a weapon-laden crowd of knights and nobles. Live and learn....in other words..."run away, run away!"
