Spinning Beach Ball of Death Stories: DVD related problems with Photoshop
I had this happen in Photoshop® CS2 and it just happened to me last night. Apparently, having an image dvd (we're fairly certain it has to do with image as opposed to data) in the drive can sometimes cause Photoshop to hang and require a forced quit. After this, I was unable to open any files in Photoshop. I contacted Adobe Tech and after various and sundry unsuccessful remedies, it occured to the tech to ask if I had a dvd in the drive. I was asked to remove it and the impediment to opening files was removed. Thanks to Adobe for their steadfast help. It does appear to me that this is a bug and, if you encounter it, you may wish to report it to psbugs-AT-adobe-DOT-com
