Oh yeah - Veal Parm

On the west coast, you can tell when someone's from back east when they
ask if you want "a slice" or "a pie".  A girl in a Washington pizzeria
told me they didn't make pies once.  :)  It's good to be back in NY
where they know what's what.

I had a slice of their white pizza for lunch, but what I really wanted was a veal parm hero.  Doesn't matter if you call 'em hoagies, heros, subs, blimpies or whatever you want, you can't get a good veal parm sandwich like you can in New England.   Maybe in Las Vegas, but that doesn't count - it's some kinds of strange thing Vegas.... the best seafood in the middle of the desert.

Tonight I headed over to Dee Maria's  over at 482 Kings Highway in Valley Cottage, New York (845-268-5291).  Oh damn.  I went hopingit'd be pretty good - - but when I smelled the fresh garlic coming out of the kitchen, I knew it was gonna be good.

The kid behind the peel was attentively pulling fresh basil from these amazing springs of the stuff.  Families from the neighborhood were in and out - picking up dinner or sitting down for a hot slice.

There was all kinds of calzone and pizza ready for take away, but I had my stomach set on the veal parm... stupid stubborn stomach.

I want to get another tomorrow, but I think I'll have to look for some alternate menu (something for rainy days).
....the calzone looked goood.
