Vendors to Visit in Vegas
No doubt you've received your badget for attending the National Association of Broadcasters Expo (NAB) in Las Vegas already. And if you're a veteran of the show, you probably already know who you're going to see. But if you're a first timer motion designer who uses Adobe, you'll probably want to hit the obvious, but don't miss...

$10K of ethanol.... whatever.
I'm not sure that I'm on board with the whole ETHANOL move, but I am on board with the ETHANOL mov-IES. You could win $10K with your little movie. It seems that there are more little contests like this. Which - truth - is just big agencies getting tons of production for a couple of bucks... but there have been no good enties yet. http://www.fuelthechange.com/index.asp

Ian Haigh's After Effects Script: Ease and Wizz
Ease and Wizz is a set of expressions for After Effects that give you more ways to interpolate between values.
The obvious use is in motion, but they can be used on animated properties of any kind. They?re controlled with a After Effects-ish palette that can be docked, so it?s very easy to use. Donations accepted at : http://ianhaigh.com/easeandwizz/

After Effects CS3 : Single Layer #3
In more single layer experiments - you can make different colored specular highlights if you use different shape layers to define your edge highlights. Star Wars Song Silly....
First it was play-doh and lego stop motion animation (well, actually it still is), but now my son is getting whacky with animation. It's great to be able to let him have the old Canon PowerShot G6 (with video) so he can make his own films. When I was a kid....

Las Vegas : Let 'Em Ride.... the monorail
Every year when I go to NAB, I wind up paying a ridiculous amount of money for a cab going from one place to another. I love the cabs - - but I also like taking the monorail there. It's only on one side of the strip, which is a little bit of a downer if you want to use it exclusively. But here's a way to save some cash for the craps tables and extra cab fare....

Jay finishes his first doc
Jay has finished his documentary which he's now selling on the femacity website.
FEMA City is now a socioeconomic time bomb just waiting to blow up,"
said Bob Hebert, director of recovery for Charlotte County, where most
FEMA City residents used to live. "You throw together all these very
different people under already tremendous stress, and bad things will
happen. And this is the really difficult part: In our county, there's
no other place for many of them to go." (FEMA's City of Anxiety,
article in Washington Post on Sept. 17th , 2005)

After Effects CS3: Single Layer Illustration
In After Effects CS3, there are endless animations you can create
without importing a single file resource, without creating a solid
layer, and in some cases, without even making a single keyframe. If
you have single layer animation projects - post a link so we can see it
(or download it).
Initially, I started to illustrate this as an exercise for the shape layer and puppet tool, but I started to have fun with the characters. It gets really addictive. Remember that you've got access to all of the shape layer modifier tools as well.... MERGE, TRIM, TWIST, REPEAT, WIGGLE.....

SKYPE HIDDEN ICONS for Mac
Have you used Skype? It's kinda like iChat, but it bridges the gap between Mac and PC a little more, and seems to have a much more international adoption than iChat. One of the reasons I used it was for the conference calling (before I started to listen to TalkShoe). You can make VoIP calls easily through Skype too, which makes international calling easy. Don't speak their language? Maybe emoticons do. (find out how to hack 'em open).

TalkShoe... reeeally big shoe..
Talkshoe introduces an application which will allow you to join in
online conferences calls via your iPhone. This doesn't mean that you
need an iPhone in order to listen in on Talkshoe sessions, but you
don't need to be in front of your computer to do it.
It won't replace my Skype application just yet - - I"ve got both. TalkShoe is really easy to get a conference call together on, and allow people to join in whenever......(read more...)

Lineform 1.5 Update
Lineform, the drawing and illustration software from Freeverse, just

particleIllusion: 5 easy steps to Setup Animation
Wondertouch's particleIllusion is basically a monster particle system
in a box. The application is not a plugin, so you don't need to have a
host application to run the particle simulations. Some editors have asked me if it's easy to make particle animations in it - - I told them it was only a handful of steps... here's how. (another 5 to export the movie, still less than 10 steps).
