Ross came to the FEB 16 dmala meeting to show off some very cool software: MochaAE and gave us some great tricks and tips as well. He promised to offer the tips to everyone on the imagineer systems site, and sure enough - - here is the first: UNLINK to track what you thought was impossible:

I promised to post this when available. This is a very useful tutorial that covers some great undocumented tips and tricks for using mocha and Red Giant Warp.
It also covers a very cool unlinking trick for tracking long camera pans (where all your tracking points keep going off screen).

Chrome is often rendered with HDRs applied and GI implemented. However, you can 'fake' something with standard renders using just reflection too.

C4D4AE: auto align
Where did the names of my objects go?!?
This is one of those 'gotcha's that happens to a bunch of people. If you're quickly clicking through your project, you might not even notice that you've moved the column. But once you did, it's no longer auto-revealing...

C4D Kill the lights...
If you're familiar with CINEMA 4D's ability to export to Adobe After
Effects, you know that all of the camera and light data can be saved in
a single file - for use within a 3D composition in AE. However,
sometimes unnecessary light animation and 3D data makes that AEC file
heavy. Here's how to clean up your export file.
You're probably
aware by now that you can export any CINEMA 4D file as an AEC - - which
means that you can open it directly from within Adobe's After Effects,
capturing all of the 3D data that is attached to the cameras, lights,
and external compositing tags..... READ MORE

XPresso Lite: Time for a reheat p2
If you're familiar with After Effects' expressions, listen
closely: Cinema's XPresso is even easier and just as powerful in its
own right. In last
week's installment, XPresso Part 1,
I covered the manual insertion of attribute controllers through
XPresso. This is really the basis of how XPresso ("XP") manipulates the
paramaters of attributes in your project. However, there is an easy way
to add XP control without ever seeing the XP window.

XPresso Lite: Time for a reheat

In earlier versions of Cinema 4DXL, C.O.F.F.E.E. programming language was the tool required to script both complicatedly interesting and simple operators to control the 3D
objects and attributes of your project. With the release of Cinema4D
version 8, a new, comprehensive, easy to use tool was introduced called
XPresso. Still, many people are still afraid to open it up, assuming
only code warriors and superusers will understand its contents. If I can use it, so can you. Here is the first of two simple tutorials to demystify Maxon's
new expression manager. If you've never used XPresso, or are new to it,
here's a simple breakdown of just how easy and useful it is to
incorporate into your next project.

Boolean Splines in CINEMA4D MOGRAPH
This week I've made a small movie examining the Mograph spline mask. This is a subtle tool with great utility to the motion graphics artist. Simply stated, this puts boolean operations from one spline to another at a mouse click.
