fun with foil: C4D 3D easter stuff

fun with foil: C4D 3D easter stuff

I was going to make a quick project about printed foil (or applying a texture to separate faces of single item), and I got carried away in texture creation.  Beware: Material layers in CINEMA 4D are so much fun (and easy), you can easily lose hours to creative play.  file download.easter egg_foil_01.c4d.zip

There are a couple of other water files and tutorials for making watery-looking stuff in CINEMA 4D from a couple of versions ago (still valid methods)

Fish light rays: The simple breakdown

Fish light rays: The simple breakdown

You can create much more than this - with dynamic lighting, lens blurs, caustics - it's all in After Effects - but if you need to confine your composite to the "SOMETHING EASY IN 3 MINUTES" rule, you can create each of these After Effects comps in less than a minute - - of course tweaking should take you considerably longer.... here's a headstart (read more / get file)

Vegas baby!

Vegas baby!

Sometimes it's easier to respond to questions from the After Effects forum by creating a file.  I think there might be an answer somewhere on the After Effects Channel too - - schleicher and nagel made 100s of tutorials even before I showed up.

You'll need the letter "H" from fotosearch or from the post here.

Halloween Cross 5/5

Halloween Cross 5/5

If you have Adobe's Photoshop CS3 Extended,
you can import 3D models from other applications. If there are 3D
models in a Photoshop CS3e project, you can open up the textures and
modify them to suit the project at hand. Here's the last bit in these
tutorials for the Halloween Cross. Adding text and a couple of regular
2D layers will help you compose the final image

You can also apply images to the adjoining surfaces, although sometimes those pieces of 3D geometry don't reside next to each other in the smart object texture.

Second to last - -you know what's coming next....

I suppose "fun" is a relative term because creating the flag stripes with spline material in the alpha was kind of a chore. get the C4D file (R11 and R10.5)

3D in Photoshop: Simple Religious Icons Part 2

3D in Photoshop: Simple Religious Icons Part 2

Manipulating the texture on a 3D object within Photoshop CS3 is really easy.  If you know how to use the tools in Photoshop, there's really no limit to what you can do with a 3D material.  Like a smart object, the 3D material is just an embedded Photoshop document.  In Part 2, I check out other models which aren't as easy to break down as the geometry in the cross.

idea of slapping color onto a model with some additional elements

easy way to make the 3D texture is with some simple Photoshop tricks.
Here are a couple steps to make some Photoshop slime.  Halloween Photoshop Goo

Lollerskates: Instant Rimshot!

This little gem has been making the rounds lately amongst my friends. Go to this website: www.instantrimshot.com
and you can tell a joke, or maybe use it after someone else does. But remember, timing is Key! Theres also a sad trombone for those that fail at life.

Static Noise Project in AE CS3

Static Noise Project in AE CS3

I'm sure there are a dozen different versions of this online - - but it was easier to make (about 5 minutes) than it was to search  for a reference.  The audio was created with After Effects Audio plugins, so it's all self-contained, but you'll need AE CS3 to open it.

If you want some cool looking effects for your actual video, you'll probably want to purchase either TWITCH, a new plugin from Andrew Kramer, or DAMAGE, a new plugin from DigiEffects.

depth of field: Invigorator

What's happened to Stephen Schleicher's tutorial about depth of field and Zaxwerks Invigorator?  It is under a different link, but it's the same article from 2004, which will show you how to make movies like the one below.
