Colour spaces demystified
One of the core, but often misuderstood, elements of video production can be found in the convoluted set of algebraic numbers and letters that define colour space and chroma subsampling. Whilst many might dismiss such information as the realm of the tech-heads, the truth is that any video maker not armed with this knowledge is fundementally at the mercy of their tools and invaribly hamstrung in their ability to deliver their movie as they want it to be seen.
There are of course countless sources of on-line information pertaining to Colour Space but none qute so effectivly accesible as
this simple page form the website of Glenn Chan.
Glenn's article refers in some specificity to the Vegas NLE system but is none the less universal to all video-based applications. Its short, simple and sweet and if you've ever been baffled by the difference between Stduio RGB and Computer RGB, this site is for you.
