the art of the case mod

What I love about technology, and the digital culture that grows with it, is not just the empowerment that comes with affordable widespread creative opporunity but the more ingrained culture of 'ownership', of taking hold of the technology and really posessing it, modifying it, of not being satsified with the makers intentions but of making it your own. I guess this is why, despite owning  anumber of Macs the Apple visual aesthetic never did it for me because because I could never quite understand why someone would want their computer to look exactly the same and exactly the way some designer in California said it should be. In this context for me theres something really quite culturally special about the art of Case Mods.

This Alien themed case is pretty amazing but for the mopst part still looks like a computer. if you want to go the whole hog this site has some truly outrageous computers.

The R2D2

The Millenium bug

But on the scale of truly outrageous and alarming case mods this set really takes the cake....

Yep, that is indeed the resault of Texidermy fused with Computer moding...  And of course the mouse is....

A MOUSE....

the doom case took about a year to complete, I think. Was posted on the Hard OCP forums forever.

Most amazing is that it has working gas vents, that puff out clouds of smoke / pseudo-steam. The front doors open too - a working airlock

:D
