VeriFone has come up with a hardware software solution that turns your iPhone into a mobile credit card payment device. Coupled with a hardware interface that slides onto the side of the iPhone with its software, the VeriFone PAYware Mobile solution is priced at $49 activation fee and free with a 2-year gateway service agreement, and additional merchant fees. It features a built in stylus, end to end encryption protection,  real time reporting, payment consolidation, and transaction history.
