R.I.P., VHS.
I think my Dad bought one of the first VHS players out there, back in the late 1970s when I was a little kid. It had a remote that wasn't even wireless: it had a cable attached to it! And the tape went in the top, where the tape transport system popped up. Still, I loved it.
My Dad also bought one of the first CD players, which cost something like $500 or $600 (it was as big as a large DVD player and the CD cases came in these long boxex), but he didn't get the first DVD player. I was waiting for that tech since 1994 with a release in 1997 (I couldn't get one until the prices dropped a bit in late 1998).
Anyway, though I thought VHS was already dead, it's now pretty much dying. And guess what? Movie downloads may overtake DVDs and Blu-ray!
