The offshore status of these barges will mean that Google will not have to pay property taxes. Also, their current data centers use large amounts of electricity to make sure the computers do not overheat. Using the Data Barges would propel Google further into the "Green" status. The patent application as observed by The Times says, "Computing centres are located on a ship or ships, anchored in a water body from which energy from natural motion of the water may be captured, and turned into electricity and/or pumping power for cooling pumps to carry heat away."
