Spore rapidly becoming the most pirated game due to DRM restrictions.
Spore rapidly becoming the most pirated game due to DRM restrictions.

Since September 1st, Spore has been downloaded 171,402 times. EA uses SecuROM in its games to prevent peer-to-peer piracy and is only allowing once account per purchase of the game. This has angered many users and according to one p2p research company, "The numbers are extraordinary. This is a very high level of torrent activity even for an immensely popular game title."

Comments:

I don't know what to say other than oh well. EA insists that they haven't changed their anti-piracy policies, but that's a load of crap.

I've been playing Sims since it came out and the number of pirated copies was nothing compared to what is going on now. It wasn't until Bon Voyage came out that the sh*t started to hit the fan as they had always used Safe Disc prior to BV. Nobody made a huge stink about having to play with a disc that didn't require a internet connection and it certainly didn't phone home.

So while all this has nothing to do with Sims or Sims 2, the mayhem that has been going on surrounding Spore has proven to EA what all Sims players were trying to tell EA last year. That message was that if they continue to travel down this ugly DRM path armed to the teeth with their torches and pitch forks, it would eventually backfire on them.

It must be nice to take a loss of millions of dollars just because they refuse to bend alittle. Karma can be a real biotch sometimes.

I've boycotted all EA and Sony products, so they're not getting any money from me or anybody else that lives in this house.

I hope they enjoy being backed into a corner and continue to bite off their nose inspite of their face. Like the Roman Empire, I'm just waiting for EA to fall in on itself.
