Warhammer Open Beta: First Impressions
I created a Bright Wizard which is basically supposed to be the highest ranged damage dealer for the side of Order. If you've played MMO's before it doesn't stray too far from what you'd expect. Icons over the heads of NPC's telling you that there's a quest available for you and basically running from newbie zone level 1 to newbie zone level 2 and so forth.

I bumped the graphics up to the highest resolution and I was pretty impressed by the environment. My staff casts a pretty complex looking shadow over my robe everywhere I turn and so the lighting is pretty neat looking. The area that this game really shines, though, is the Realm vs Realm Scenerios. You can basically join an RvR scenerio at a real newbie level like Rank 3 or so and gain experience and level up fighting real players. It was a strange experience to gain a Rank in the middle of some PvP skirmish because I don't remember that ever happening in any other MMO. The game as a whole is still a little buggy because its still in a beta stage. I'm sure after a good 3 months or so this game will be rock solid with balance issues flushed out and all the kinks smoothed out.
I haven't had enough time to dig deeper into the equipment tiers yet but even at this low level I was able to obtain some blue dye from a quest and change the color of my robe, which I thought was pretty cool. Since this is Open Beta and all the characters will be wiped from the database before the official launch(Sept 18th); this is the best time to try out different characters and see what type of play style thats going to appeal to you when it starts for real. Until then, I'll see you on the battlefields!
