Avid to discontinue XpressPro
I was on a conference call on Thursday of last week that was hosted by Avid Chief Marketing Officer, Greg Estes, where he discussed Avid's upcoming plan for the year, and why they were not going to be showing off anything at NAB. The big bombshell he dropped was that Avid was phasing out XpressPro into Media Composer, and they were going to cut the price in half from $5000 to $2495 for the Software only edition. Also of interest on the call was that Avid was also dropping the price of Media Composer Academic software to $295 US, and Avid will be creating a new online community for editors to not only show off their work, but a community that will let employers look for editors and vice versa. Finally Avid also announced changes to their customer support to make the experience more user friendly for end users. For everyone who thought the Media Composer price point was too high, now's the time to think about buying!
