Carbon Hero uses existing technologies in a novel and innovative way, without compromising the individual’s privacy, to reveal to its user their own unique Travel Carbon Footprint.

It essentially identifies and evaluates the different forms of transport used as one goes about ones business getting from A to B, and then outputs this to the user. The accompanying software has been written in Java to run on pretty much every mobile.

Discrete, easily integrated into one’s life, informative, secure and hopefully an opportunity to make a difference, from many small differences in people’s habits.

This small device is interesting because, like a pedometer, calorie counter, or GPS, it has a lot of functions that could be tapped that aren't necessarily only about figuring out how energy you're consuming on the planet.

It works in tandem with a computer input which requires you to enter some pretty simple data.  As all of our hand-held devices get smaller - - it'd be good to see this thing get smaller as well.... and maybe become integrated into a phone or laptop itself as a featured component.
