World largest optical telescope operating in Arizona
World largest optical telescope operating in Arizona

According to Sympatico's Tech News, the University of Arizona are using their new telescope to look at galaxies over 102 million light years away.

"The world's most powerful optical telescope is now operating on southeastern Arizona's Mount Graham, capturing striking images of objects millions of light years away.
The Large Binocular Telescope has two mirrors that are 8.4-metres in diameter.  Together, they gather more light and have 10 times the resolution of the Hubble Space Telescope.  The telescope took its first images using both mirrors late last year.  The first images are just now being released to the public."
