Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80's might be a collectors item
Most people when you mention the band The Romantics would be like, "Who???". Well, The Romantics, who are most famous for singing "What I like about you" are suing Activision, the makers of Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80's, for something that might surprise you. Most of you know that there are two types of tracks on Guitar Hero, Master tracks (originals) and "As made famous by's"(cover versions). The Romantics are suing because the band that did a cover version of "What I like about you" did such a great job, they can't tell whether it's the actual band or not (which it isn't), so they are suing for a piece of the pie. Here's an piece from Gamespot's story:
Michigan band The Romantics, most famous for tunes What I Like About You, and Talking In Your Sleep has filed a federal lawsuit against Activision.
The group, which is still together and performing its hits today, was
formed on Valentine's Day, 1977--hence the name The Romantics--and is
objecting to its likeness and an "imitation" of one of its songs being
used in Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s.
The lawsuit reads, "The imitation of the plaintiffs on the defendant's
video game is virtually indistinguishable from the authentic version."
