Transplant
I am fascinated by hand sewing and funky art. Like fabric journals and books, I can never have enough or create too many purses. This was my second attempt at creating an everyday purse from a small painting and Photo Shop Elements. I painted this bison in 1995 or so and scanned it in 2006. I try to scan or photograph everything because even if it is unusable at the time, I never know where it will end up later.
In this case, it landed on a purse titled - Transplant. I created the collage on my computer and printed it on muslin which I treated with Bubble Jet Set 2000. It makes fabric injet printable and it works too. You can get it at http://www.cjenkinscompany.com/ or www.dharmatrading.com. Then I threw together a canvas bag that was recyled from a futon cushion covering that I cut up and dyed. After all that prep, I sewed the bison on the front and embroidered and beaded to finish it off.
We moved to Maui last year and we are hicks so this purse really is a statement on how I feel here.
